Municipality of South Huron closes all parks to the public

Posted on Saturday April 04, 2020

In response to social gatherings in municipal parks, the Municipality is now forced to close all passive parks to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This means that ALL municipal parks are now closed to the public.

Earlier this week the Municipality placed signage and caution tape at all municipal playgrounds following their closure. Unfortunately, people are removing these signs, which is creating a hazard to the public and especially to children. Staff have replaced the signage at our Crediton site three times in the past week alone! If you see people removing these signs, report it to the OPP using their non-emergency line at (1-888-310-1122).

The Province has issued Orders (laws) under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act that:

  • Ontarians must practice physical distancing and keep two metres (6ft) away from people outside of their household
  • All organized public events of over 5 people are prohibited

The OPP have the authority to issue fines and serious penalties to anyone who violates these laws. If you have concerns about an order violation, residents are encouraged to call the Ontario Provincial Police non-emergency line (1-888-310-1122). DO NOT call 9-1-1 unless you need emergency service.

Everyone must stay up to date on the COVID-19 situation in our region by following the information and guidance of Huron Perth Public Health at Their Health Line intake phone line (1-888-221-2133) is open Monday to Friday, 9AM-8PM and Saturday and Sunday, 9AM-4PM.

We all must prevent the spread of infection:

· Stay at home

· Self-isolate when you are unwell or returning from travels for at least 14 days—this is law!

· When you go out for essentials, maintain a physical distance of 2m between others

· Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently

· Parents, make sure kids are following your lead - no play dates!
