Centralia Community Hall closed due to public safety concerns

Posted on Thursday July 04, 2019

Until further notice, the Municipality of South Huron has closed the Centralia Community Hall. This decision was based on information received from the Fire Prevention Officer after a safety inspection identified several fire code violations. Due to the nature of the violations, Centralia Hall must be closed immediately to ensure public safety.

“This is unfortunate but protecting public safety is always our number one priority,” said Mayor George Finch. “Staff are working with the affected user groups to find them an alternative facility.”

This closure affects seven user groups who have bookings in 2019 for the Centralia Hall. Operations of the surrounding Centralia Community Centre grounds, including the ball diamond, playground and pavilion are not affected and will continue to be available for the public’s use.

The Municipality of South Huron apologizes for any inconvenience this closure causes; however, public facilities are held to a high standard as ensuring public safety is always the paramount concern. To this end, the South Huron Fire Prevention Officer is currently conducting proactive safety inspections on all municipal facilities.
