Statement from Mayor Finch regarding continuance of core services

Posted on Wednesday March 18, 2020

Hello Everyone,

At this time, I want to reassure you that our critical infrastructure remains unaffected and that our core services are being maintained.

Staff are continuing to maintain our roads, drinking water and wastewater infrastructure in full regulatory compliance. The landfill site remains open and curbside recycling / garbage collection continues to be provided. Staff are keeping in close contact with service providers like the OPP, EMS, BRA and the Lake Huron Water Supply, to name a few. I want to assure our residents that their health, safety and protection is paramount.

Last evening I, along with mayors from across Ontario, participated in a teleconference call with Minister Clark and Deputy-Premier Elliott to maintain lines of communication. I have recently had teleconferences with Huron Perth Public Health and Bruce Power to ensure that we are all working collaboratively to serve Ontarians.

I want to remind the citizens of South Huron that the real heroes in this crisis are those who reach out to help others. Whether it be the person who brought groceries to someone less able; the person who makes a simple phone call to remind someone that we are all facing this crisis together; or, the person who is offering flexibility to meet their employees’ needs. That’s what small town Ontario is all about -  we all have each other’s backs!

Please stay informed of what’s happening locally by visiting and follow the guidance of Huron Perth Public Health at

Reach out to your neighbours to make sure they have everything they need. Together we are flattening the curve!

George Finch, Mayor
