Statement from Mayor Finch regarding COVID-19

Posted on Monday March 16, 2020

On behalf of South Huron Council and staff, I would like to restate that we are committed to providing the municipal services that you rely on every day.

In order to continue providing high levels of service to the community we are adjusting some ways that we conduct business moving forward. These changes are being implemented in order to protect everyone by limiting the potential spread of the coronavirus within our communities. We all must do our part and safeguard each other, and especially our healthcare workers on the front lines of this global pandemic.

Currently, all municipal facilities are closed to the public with the exception of the South Huron Landfill, which remains open to South Huron residents only. Effective immediately the Municipality is no longer accepting cash for any transactions. Debit will be the only payment method that will be accepted at the landfill, for example. Payments to the Municipality for other services is also now restricted to debit or other means of electronic transfer. Please contact municipal staff by email or telephone to discuss how this can be done.

Please review the South Huron and the Huron Perth Public Health websites for up-to-date information on the status of this evolving situation.

As municipal leaders we must never lose sight that our greatest responsibility is to the protection of the public. I know we all share this sentiment, so let us work together over the coming weeks ahead to flatten the curve as a united community.
