South Huron collecting information from residents about a new community hub / recreation centre

Feedback

The Municipality of South Huron is considering the development of a new community hub recreation centre. As part of the planning process, the Municipality has engaged LeisurePlan International Inc. to undertake a scientific study to determine the potential market and demand for programs, activities and services that may be provided at a new facility.

This study involves a telephone survey of randomly selected adult residents of South Huron between the ages 20 and 64 years to collect opinions about recreation, fitness, health and aquatic services. LeisurePlan International Inc. recommended this age range for the scientific study because their prior experience in other municipalities has determined this group has the greatest potential impact on operational revenue and the viability of recreational facilities, as senior and youth user fees are typically subsidized or discounted. User fee revenue will be vital to the viability of a new facility in South Huron.

The Municipality values the opinions of all residents and is actively seeking input on the proposed new community hub recreation centre project from the entire community. A series of focus group workshops facilitated by the YMCA is being planned in the coming months to collect opinions from residents and community organizations. At these focus group workshops, information concerning the research project will be shared and those in attendance will have an opportunity to participate in discussions concerning recreation, fitness, health and aquatic programs and activities.

The first two focus groups will concentrate on gathering information from seniors and are scheduled for the following dates and locations:

  • Monday, August 27, 6-8 pm in Exeter at the South Huron Recreation Centre
  • Thursday, August 30, 2-4 pm in Grand Bend at the Grand Cove Clubhouse

These focus groups are free to attend and pre-registration is not required. Additional focus group workshops will be held in the coming weeks. For more information, please contact the Municipality of South Huron at 519.235.0310 x 231 or communications@southhuron.ca.
