February 2 Council Meeting Highlights
At its Regular Meeting on February 2, 2026, South Huron Council:
· Received staff reports/memos on topics including:
o Building and Planning 2025 4th Quarter Activity and Year End Summary
§ A total of 51 permits were issued in the fourth quarter with an accumulative construction value of $8,943,636.00.
§ A total of 184 permits were issued in 2025 with an accumulative construction value of $40,007,799.00
o Dedicating Road Widenings as Public Highway; the by-law will be brought back for the required three readings
§ Within some recent developments, the municipality has required road widening dedications as part of their development agreement. As such, staff are bringing the below listed road widening dedications forward to be recognized as public highways via By-law.
· 228 McConnell Street (West Market Lofts)
· 15 James Street (James Street Commons)
· 248 McConnell Street/ 260 McConnell Street (Exeter Masonic Hall/ Hay Communications)
o Extension of Service at the South Huron Recreation Centre; Council approved the extension of the South Huron Recreation Centre ice season for the 2026 season and moving forward
o 2025 Drinking Water System Annual Compliance Report to the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks
o Ontario Regulation 284/09 Budget Matters; and South Huron Council adopted the report which meets the requirements of Regulation 284/09
o 2025 4th Quarter and Year End Summary of By-Law Infractions and Requests for Service
§ 346 requests for service, which includes complaints/by-law infractions, were received from October 1st through December 31, 2025, and 1,488 requests for service, including complaints/by-law infractions were received January 1st through December 31, 2025.
o 2025 Council Priorities Year End Review was received; and Council will set a workshop to review, validate and workplan Council priorities

· Approved a Notice of Motion directing staff to proceed with a public consultation plan to gather information on public interest in establishing a dog park in Exeter, including preferred location, sponsorships, and financial support, and staff will bring a report back following the public consultation period for Council consideration.
