May 20, 2025 Council Meeting Highlights

At its Regular Meeting on May 20, 2025, South Huron Council:

·         Received the presentation by Mr. W. Dietrich, P. Eng for the new drainage systems known as the Coates Municipal Drain 2025

o   authorized staff to initiate the tender process following the Court of Revision and expiry of any applicable appeal periods, if required.

o   Appointed councillors Neeb, Oke and Vaughn as members to Court of Revision to be held on June 16, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.

·         Received staff reports on topics including:

o   Planning – approved the removal of holding symbol for Tridon Phase I Subdivision

o   Approved the relocation of the Victoria St entrance into the South Huron Recreation Centre and a budget amendment for the replacement and relocation of the SHRC playground closer to the Relouw Centre. This will better align the entrance with the laneway around SHRC while creating addition parking spaces.

o   Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (Health and Safety Water Stream) Grant Funding Program

§  Council confirmed that the Exeter Sewage Lagoon Upgrades and associated projects – included in the Municipality’s long-term capital plan - is the top priority for the Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program (Health and Safety Water Stream) Grant Funding Program

§  If the grant application is successful, the Municipality commits to funding the municipal portion of the project. The program offers a grant of up to 73% of the total estimated project cost, which is estimated to be $4,693,265. If required, the municipal portion could be funded from the Sewer Capital Replacement Reserve or external borrowing.

o   Information about a Stormwater User Pay System, for information

o   Reporting on the special circumstances requiring the purchase of extra winter control/snow removal support last season

o   2025 Dashwood Friedsburg - approved Special Event Permit in principle and associated requests from the organizers (closure of Boston Street for Saturday, August 2, 2025, exemption to the Noise By-law for Saturday, August 2nd until 1:00 a.m.)

o   Approved the Terms of Reference for the Mayor’s Task Force on Regional Health Care
