Main Street South Reconstruction Project-Weekly Update April 24, 2026

Work continued this week with the installation of the temporary watermain; removal of sidewalks and curbs along the west side of Main Street; and testing of sewer bypass equipment. The contractor commenced work on the storm sewer, including installation of the headwall at the Ausable River; and continues to prepare for the closure of Main Street for underground work in the intersection of Main and Church Street next week.

Commencing 6:00am on Monday April 27, 2026 Main Street will be closed to facilitate major underground infrastructure work in the intersection of Main and Church Street. Detours will be in place to re-route traffic to Airport Line or Morrison Line via. Huron Street and Thames Road. Main Street is scheduled to re-open prior to 5:00pm on Friday May 1, 2026. Next week the contractor will place the temporary watermain in service, after receipt of final bacteriological testing; will complete sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and watermain work in the intersection Main and Church Street; and will place temporary asphalt in the intersection before reopening the roadway.

With the full road closure of Main Street at Church Street next week, traffic will be disrupted; please expect delays and plan accordingly.
