South Huron Delegation Attends 2026 AMO Conference

The annual conference put on by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) is happening in Ottawa this week and South Huron’s delegation has been meeting with provincial representatives to discuss our local priorities.

Joined by regional leadership from neighbouring municipalities, South Huron led a delegation with Anthony Leardi, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health to discuss and advocate for:

2026 AMO Conference1. Approval of South Huron Hospital’s self-funded CT scanner application.

2. Funding for Huron Health System Master Planning.

3. Support for Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre’s access to health care expansion funding for both operating and capital budgets.

4. Support for sustainable hospice and palliative care capacity.

South Huron’s delegation has also met with Steve Pinsonneault, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Rural Affairs to discuss:

AMO conference 2026 with MOH PA Steve Pinsonneault1. Providing direct, sustained, and predictable resources to support the continued implementation, coordination, evaluation, and measurement of community safety and well-being priorities in rural municipalities.

2. Reviewing volunteer firefighter certification and training requirements through a rural lens to ensure they remain practical, affordable, and achievable for volunteer-based departments while maintaining firefighter and public safety.

Attended by over 2,500 municipal, provincial and federal leaders, the 4-day conference is an opportunity to discuss local governance and address priority policy issues facing Ontario municipalities. The conference wraps up tomorrow (Wednesday, August 19th) and South Huron delegates will report back at a future Council meeting.
