Amendment to Parking By-Law (#77-2018)
Background
South Huron Council directed staff to review and update the existing Parking By-law #77- 2018, which included public consultation and a review of the set fines.
The following were included in the review and update of the by-law:
- Review of existing By-law, including legislative references; definitions; references to accessibility and general by-law language.
- All existing parking restrictions listed in the existing By-law and in Schedule “A” and Schedule “B” were reviewed.
- All existing parking related signage was field verified and documented.
- Historical parking issues, safety related parking issues and by-law clarification were identified during this review.
- A survey was carried out in April of 2021 to solicit comments from the public. All suggestions were considered as part of the Parking By-law review and update.
- Set fines were reviewed and updated.

Frequently asked Parking By-law related questions
I have a complaint related to parking. Who do I contact? |
Parking complaints can be submitted using the online Report It form. Parking is enforced through the South Huron Parking By-Law by Municipal By-Law Enforcement. |
Is overnight parking allowed on municipal streets? |
Where appropriate signs are erected and are on display no person shall park or allow a vehicle to stand upon any part of any street between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. local time on the highways or parts of highways as designated by the signs, unless the owner of the vehicle has obtained an Overnight Parking Permit from the Municipality of South Huron.

How do I apply for an overnight parking permit? |
To receive a copy of the On-Street Parking application form or for questions regarding a permit, please contact the Transportation Services Department by phone at 519-235-0310 extension 251 or by email at transportation@southhuron.ca. |
I received a Parking Ticket. What are my options? |
Unpaid Parking Ticket |
- You have 15 days from the date the Notice of Infraction (parking ticket) is issued to pay the parking ticket.
- Following those 15 days, you will receive a Notice of Impending Conviction in the mail, this Notice has a set date that the ticket must be paid by.
- If the ticket remains unpaid following the date listed on the Notice of Impending Conviction the ticket is forwarded onto the County Provincial Offences Office. The Municipality is no longer able to collect payment for the ticket at this point.
- Once with the County Provincial Offences Office, you will receive instructions from them regarding next steps.

Voluntary Paying of a Parking Ticket |
Cheque |
Payments by cheque are to be made out to the Municipality of South Huron and can be delivered to the Municipal Office at 322 Main Street South, Exeter or by mail to;

Payments by cash can be delivered to the Municipal Office at 322 Main Street South, Exeter. Please ensure that you include your name, address and the parking infraction number to ensure that the payment is applied to the correct ticket. |
Debit |
Debit payments can be made at the Municipal Office located at 322 Main Street South, Exeter. |
Credit / Online Payments |
Online payments can be made by Credit Card through South Huron's eCommerce website. To register for online payment please follow these instructions. Please ensure you have your credit card, ticket number and licence plate number ready as this information is required to complete the payment.

Trial / Appealing a Parking Ticket |
- You or your agent must attend in person at the Municipal Office located at 322 Main Street South, Exeter within 15 days of issuance of parking ticket to file a Notice of Intention to Appear in Court
- You or your agent must bring the Notice of Infraction (parking ticket) with you, you will sign the Notice of Intention to Appear in Court and Municipal staff will forward same to the County Provincial Offences Act Office
- The County Provincial Offences Act Office will be in touch directly to set the date of the trial, you or your agent, along with the issuer if the parking ticket will attend court for the trial
- You cannot set a trial date by mail
- For your convenience and to save time in filing a Notice of Intention to Appear in Court, you may call the office in advance for an appointment at 519-235-0310.
