Discover our versatile arenas, equipped to host hockey and figure skating, providing a dynamic space for entertainment and sports enthusiasts alike. Our arenas offer state-of-the-art facilities and a welcoming environment for all residents to enjoy year-round activities.

Public Skating

Public skating is FREE and will runs from October to March Skate aids available at both arenas.

The South Huron Recreation Centre (SHRC) is located at 94 Victoria Street East, Exeter.

  • Maintain reasonable control of your speed, course and direction.  Do not skate in groups.  Do not stop where you obstruct other skaters.
  • No speed skating, figure skating maneuvers or hockey equipment such as sticks and pucks are allowed on the ice.
  • Parents/Guardians must be within sight and control of their children.  Do no leave children unattended.
  • Ice skates required – no street shoes.
  • Ice skates are sharp.  Do not have your hands on the floor or on the ice where they can be stepped on by a blade.
  • Children aged 10 and under must wear a CSA-certified hockey helmet at all times. Helmets are strongly recommended for all other participants.
  • Maintain a proper lookout to avoid other skaters, objects, or conditions on the ice surface.  Report any hazards to arena staff.
  • No skating while under the influence of drugs, alcohol or other control impairing substances.
  • Leave the ice surface when resurfacing maintenance is taking place.  Keep exits clear and do not sit on the dasher boards.  Before getting on the rink, look for oncoming skaters.
  • No food or drink on the rink surface or surrounding dasher or cap rail.
  • Do not carry children or items while skating.
  • No headphones are to be worn or use of PDA’s or cellular phones used while skating.
  • Do not act in a manner that may cause or contribute to injury of yourself or any other person.
  • Do not throw or leave objects on the rink surface.
  • Report any injuries or accidents to staff prior to leaving the facility.
  • Please respect your facility.

South Huron Recreation Centre

Built in 1976, the South Huron Recreation Centre (SHRC) is located at 94 Victoria Street East, Exeter. In 2022, the facility underwent a significant renovation to enhance ice user experiences, increase comfort and optimal viewing for patrons, and improve the overall accessibility within the main areas of the facility.

South Huron Minor Hockey and Exeter Skating Club operate ice-related programming at this facility.

  • Curb cut access to walkway with detectable warning surfaces (DWS)
  • Walkway slope is gentle
  • The entrance to the facility includes two automatic sliding doors

Ice Surface and Dressing Rooms

  • The SHRC ice surface measures 195 feet by 85 feet
  • Six dressing rooms marked with braille signage, including two fully accessible dressing rooms: 
    • Accessible dressing rooms include automatic push button door openers, additional radius turnaround space, grab bars, accessible washroom and shower facilities including grab bars and benches

Arena Lobby and Spectator Seating

  • Uncontrolled climate area includes spectator seating for 1200 people. Access to this seating is by stairs only.
  • Controlled climate area includes a large, open concept lobby with ice surface viewing.
    • Accessible viewing platform with ice surface viewing and turnaround space and storage of wheelchairs and mobility devices. Access to this seating is by ramp.

Stephen Arena (Huron Park)

The Stephen Arena is located at 69625 Airport Line, Huron Park. 

The Stephen Arena was built in 1963.The front of the building was retrofitted in 2000, with a new lobby, six new dressing rooms, food service outlet and storage areas. This area also provides a convenient warm spectator viewing area of the ice surface. In 2022, the arena was renovated to include a rink slab replacement, new dasher boards and glass, automatic entrance doors, upgrades to the spectator seating and a new ice resurfacer room. 

South Huron Minor Hockey operates ice related programming at this facility.

  • The ice surface measures 179 feet by 79 feet
  • Six large dressing rooms (3 on the north side; 3 on the south side) equipped with single washroom stall and showers

Arena Lobby and Spectator Seating

  • Uncontrolled climate area includes spectator seating for 130 people. Access to this seating is by a non-automatic door with ramp or stair access, with a viewing platform of the ice surface available. 
  • Controlled climate area includes an open lobby with options for low height seating (facing away from the ice surface) and high height seating (facing the ice surface). Viewing of the ice surface from the lobby is slightly distant, approximately 4 feet from the window. 
  • Water bottle refill station
  • Washroom facilities are accessed by non-automatic doors and include single stalls and one large stall.

Ice Rental Fees

Ice rates are based on a one hour rental, including a 10 minute flood period.

Prime Ice Monday to Friday - 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
