NEW ONLINE REGISTRATION!

The Municipality of South Huron will required all patrons to pre-register for each pool activity and complete a COVID screening test prior to arrival. Access our online booking system here

Registration for swimming lessons at the Exeter Pool and Kirkton-Woodham Pool will open June 10th at 5:00p.m

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we will only be offering Private and Semi-Private Lessons. More information is on our online booking system.

South Huron is closely following provincial direction and guidance provided by Huron Perth Public Health. South Huron will work very closely with Public Health all season to ensure that our pools are a safe place to visit. As new information becomes available it will be posted to this page. Swimming Level Information

Preschool Swimming Levels (Age: 4 months to 5 years)

 

Starfish (4-12 months & participate with a parent/caregiver)
An introductory class for babies and their caregivers. Babies must be able to hold their head up to enter this level. Babies and caregivers work together on getting wet, buoyancy and movement, front, back and vertical positions in the water and shallow water entries and exits.
Duck (12-24 months & participate with a parent/caregiver)
Swimmers build confidence while enjoying the water through games, songs and active water play. Toddlers and their caregivers work together on rhythmic breathing, moving forward and backward, front and back float with recovery and shallow water entries and exits. 
Sea Turtle (24 - 36 months & participate with a parent/caregiver)
Toddlers and their caregivers work together on submersion front and back floats and glides, jumping into chest-deep water with assistance and kicking on front and back swim. Parents will slowly transition the preschoolers to the care of the instructor. 
Sea Otter (3-5 years & just starting without a parent/caregiver)
Swimmers work on front and back floats and glides, kicking on front with a buoyant object and an independent 1 metre swim. 
Salamander (3-5 years)
 Swimmers work on improving their front and back float, jumping into chest-deep water unassisted, adding kicking to front and back glide and an independent 2 metre swim. 

 

Levels 1 - 10 (Age: At least 5 years)

 

Level 1
Age: at least 5 years of age

Swimmers develop front and back float, front and back glide, flutter kick (assisted), shallow water entries and exits, and an independent 5 metre swim.

Level 2 
Swimmers learn front and back glide with flutter kick, develop front swim, complete deep-water activities (assisted) and swim 10 metres continuously.
Level 3
Swimmers increase their distance on front and back glide with flutter kick, perform flutter kick unassisted, wear a PFD in deep water, float in deep water, and swim 15 metres continuously.
Level 4
Swimmers learn back swim with shoulder roll and front crawl (10m), work on flutter kick on back, perform kneeling dive, get introduced to sculling and swim 25 metres continuously.
Level 5
Swimmers develop front crawl (15m), learn back crawl (15m) and whip kick on back, learn stride dive and treading water, perform head-first sculling on back, and swim 50 metres continuously.
Level 6
Swimmers increase their distance on front and back crawl (25m), learn elementary back stroke (15m), learn dolphin kick, tread in deep water, perform front dive, and swim 75 metres continuously.
Level 7
Swimmers increase their distance on front and back crawl (50m) and elementary back stroke (25m), learn front scull, perform whip kick on front and dolphin kick, learn stride entry and swim 150 metres continuously.
Level 8
Swimmers increase their distance on front and back crawl (75m) and elementary backstroke (25m), learn breast stroke (15m), learn eggbeater (tread water), perform feet-first surface dive and standing shallow dive, and swim 300 metres continuously.
Level 9
Swimmers increase their distance on front and back crawl (100m), elementary backstroke (50m) and breaststroke (25m), learn sidestroke kick, perform head-first surface dive, and swim 400 metres continuously.
Level 10
Swimmers increase their distance on front and back crawl (100m), elementary backstroke (50m) and breaststroke (50m), learn sidestroke (25m), perform dolphin kick (vertical), learn feet- and head-first surface dives with underwater swim, and swim 500 metres continuously.

Pool Information

Exeter & District Swimming Pool 

The Exeter Pool has been newly renovated in 2018. This pool is located in Exeter, 49 MacNaughton Drive. 

Swimming Lessons

The Exeter Pool offers Red Cross Swim Programming. This includes Red Cross Preschool and Red Cross Swim Kids. Private lessons are scheduled for one week, Monday-Friday. For more information, contact our Pool Coordinator, Taylor Durand at tdurand@southhuron.ca

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all Preschool and Swim Kids Level 4 and lower will require a parent/caregiver in the water with their child.

The safety of our visitors is of utmost importance. We ask that patrons respect and follow the rules placed by the Exeter Pool. 

 

General Pool Rules

  • Please shower before entering pool.
  • Please only use plastic containers. No glass around the pool.
  • No food or gum on pool deck or in the pool. 
  • Persons with communicable diseases; colds, open sores, etc., are not permitted to use the pool.
  • Walk on the deck. No running.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult, or be at least 8 years old and pass the Pool Swim Test.
  • No diving in the shallow end. Deep end only.

Splash Pad 

The Exeter Splash Pad is located in Exeter. Splash Zone.

Onsite signage will provide users with basic safety guidelines to follow. Please note that physical distancing at this amenity is required.

Hours of Operation

The Exeter Splash Pad is open from Victoria Day weekend to September.

Splash Pad is open 7 days a week, 9:00 am - 8:00 pm.

Wading Pool 

The Exeter Wading Pool is located in Exeter at Victoria Park, 125 Huron St. W. The Exeter Wading Pool will not be operating for the 2021 season.
