Project Background

At the November 18th, 2024 meeting, Council received a delegation regarding the need for a dog park in Exeter. Subsequently, Council received several letters of support from local residents and businesses.

At the December 9th, 2024 meeting, Council passed resolution #513-2024 requesting staff bring back a report on potential dog park locations in Exeter, as well as anticipated costs.

At the March 17, 2025 Council meeting, staff reported on potential spaces in Exeter that could accommodate a dog park using considerations recommended by ParknPlay Design Canada. Costing estimates were provided for 5ft chain link perimeter fencing along with one double gated entrance and safety portal. Depending on the location, additional costs for a dog park include garbage cans, waste receptacles, feces bag dispensing units, seating and signage.

Council discussed the proposal to build a dog park as part of 2026 budget deliberations and subsequently directed staff to consult the public for input to inform a decision.
